Dear Mr Maté Toth,

Today we are publishing new, more focused recommendations for greater
openness and reuse of Europe's digital cultural heritage in research -
Europeana Recommendations for Research.

Click
here<http://jamdots.nl/view/204/Europeana---Recommendations-for-Research?divFallback=1>
to view our new interactive recommendations. This visualisation details
our message for action:

A. More Digitisation (of cultural heritage content)

B. Copyright Reform (to make the best use of the public investment in
digitisation)

C. Advocacy on benefits of Digital Humanities Research for Society

We call upon researchers, cultural institutions and policy makers to work
together at both the national and European level to be more coordinated in
these key areas in order to realise the full impact of our cultural
heritage for Research.

Opening up cultural heritage reaches far beyond the culture sector itself.
Contributing towards Europe's social and economic growth, enriching
education and empowering researchers to make the connections that will
benefit society.

We have seen barriers come down in the world of Science with the Council's
Conclusions of May
2016<https://english.eu2016.nl/latest/news/2016/05/27/all-european-scientific-articles-to-be-freely-accessible-by-2020>
on 'The transition towards an Open Science system' requiring all
scientific articles to be made freely
accessible<https://english.eu2016.nl/latest/news/2016/05/27/all-european-scientific-articles-to-be-freely-accessible-by-2020>.
We would like to see the same for Culture.

Please circulate this call and our new interactive recommendations as
widely as possible to your networks. We welcome comments and questions.
Best,
Jill Cousins
